People everywhere enjoy talking about weather. "Isn't the weather nice today ? " or " Hasn't the weather been awful lately ? " are excellent beginings for the informal conversations . 

Romania is situated in the South Eastern part of   Europe having as neighbours  : Ukraine ( N ), Republic of Moldova ( E), Bulgaria (S), Hungary (N-W ), Serbia and Montenegro(S-W)

Weather conditions across Romania are varied but generally speaking it is a temperate
 continental climate, therefore  the year is divided into four main seasons : spring - which officially starts with the equinox in Mid  of March - followed by  summer , autumn and winter. 

Temperature in Romania is measured  in Centigrades* not according  Fahreneheit  scale  - like in UK or USA - in which case the boiling point of the water would be  212 degrees ( compared to 100 degrees Celsius ) , respective 32 degrees the freezing point ( compared to zero degrees Celsius ). 

 
Winter weather in Romania varies widely from severe conditions in the northern parts of the country and milder conditions  in the southern areas.

In the mountains temperatures below zero degrees Celsius are more often to be found  and there  is  much snow.

In the south there are fewer days with freezing temperatures and the snow falls are  more  seldom as well .

Spring is a delightful season.


The temperatures are moderate , the blossoming trees and flowers decorate the cities and the countryside with  beautiful colours  , while the birds are singing merrily all day long. 

After  the many days of winter , when people  hurry up to reach their homes and to escape the  frozen blowing of the wind , in spring time everyone longs to get out and to enjoy the lovely new season.

Many students find it hard to concentrate on their tasks and that is homourously - referred to as being the " spring fever "

Summer is longer and hotter in the souther part than in the northern one. The mountains and the sea coast generally benefits from moderate temperatures. Most  people take their vacations on summer and that is why the roads are overcrowded especially  on weekends , those roads  which lead to seaside   or to the most popular resorts in the mountains.

Autumn , like spring , has many mild  days and comfortabel temperatures. Nature takes ones again its painting brush and display the symphony of colours  : the red and yellow leaves the clothes of trees , the light brown carpet of leaves , whispering under  the walkers'  feet  and last but not the least the  bright fall flowers complete the landscape.Towards the end of autumn , there is abundand rain, the weather gets gradually colder and colder  then finally winter sets in.

Scientific weather forecasting is a serious matter and concern of Romanian Meteorological and hydrological Institute. The weather reports and  predictions  are printed daily   in any newspaper and they are also regularly read on TV  and radio programms .

* If you ever need to convert the temperatures from Fahrenheit scale to Centigrades and vice versa you can easily do that by using the formulas :

Fahrenheit temperatures ==> Cesius :   °C = (°F − 32) ÷ 1,8

Celsius temperatures ==>Fahrenheit :    °F = (°C × 1,8) + 32
